Home / Post Link vs Reel Link

Can an Instagram /p/ Post Link Produce a Reel Transcript?

Not in XAPN. A link beginning instagram.com/p/ is rejected before the audio fetch, even if the post contains video. This tool accepts an individual public Reel link with a /reel/ or /reels/ path. If you have a Reel, open that Reel and copy its own link; do not change /p/ to /reel/ by hand and assume it identifies the same media.

Use a public Reel link
A synthetic Instagram /p/ URL fails XAPN's validator and audio route, while a /reel/ URL shape passes only the validator.
A valid Reel-shaped URL is still only a first check; it does not prove media access or a transcript.

What the live checks returned

On October 13, 2026 (Los Angeles time), we tested two synthetic URL shapes against XAPN's live GET /api/agent validator. https://www.instagram.com/p/example/ returned valid_public_reel_url: false; https://www.instagram.com/reel/example/ returned true. The word example is a placeholder, not a real Instagram post identifier. The second result establishes only that the Reel-shaped path matches the site's allowed pattern.

We then sent the synthetic /p/example/ address to the live POST /audio route. The response was HTTP 400 with Paste a public Instagram Reel link. The request stopped at input validation: it did not download a post, inspect a video, or run speech recognition. The site's server uses the same /reel/ or /reels/ gate before attempting audio retrieval, so a post-shaped link cannot reach the browser's recognition stage through this route.

Before writing this page, we also checked the public homepage and sitemap. Both returned HTTP 200, and the then-live sitemap listed 26 pages. That check matters because the answer describes the currently served tool rather than an assumed feature from a product description. We did not submit a real /p/ post, compare Instagram's media formats, or test any third-party post-to-text service.

Test boundary: two synthetic paths, one rejected audio request, and an inspection of this site's route. A Reel-shaped validator result is not proof that a particular Reel is public, has reachable audio, or contains intelligible speech.

What to do with the link you have

  1. It is a Reel: open the individual Reel and use its share action to copy the actual Reel URL. Paste that complete link into the transcript tool, then wait for words in the result area.
  2. It is only a regular video post: this tool will not accept its /p/ address. Use a service that explicitly supports regular Instagram video posts, or transcribe an authorized local copy of the audio using another workflow.
  3. It is written text beneath the post: speech recognition is not the right extraction method. The written-caption guide separates creator-typed text from what is spoken.

If the Reel's own link uses /reels/ rather than /reel/, see the two-path check. If an accepted Reel link later stops, the failure-stage guide covers audio and model stages. A rejected /p/ path is an input-type issue, not evidence of a speech-model failure.

Questions

Can I just replace /p/ in the URL? No. The address identifies a post; changing the path characters does not establish a real Reel URL for that media. Copy the actual Reel link if Instagram presents one.

Does a true URL-pattern response guarantee a transcript? No. It checks path shape only. Audio retrieval and speech recognition can still fail or find no speech.

A regular /p/ post path is outside this Reel-only input. To convert a Reel to text, provide its public /reel/ or /reels/ URL instead. Check the address before retrying the request.
