Instagram Reel URL: /reel/ or /reels/ for a Transcript?
You can paste either an Instagram /reel/ or /reels/ link into XAPN's transcript tool. In our same-post test, both passed URL validation and both returned audio. That does not guarantee a transcript: the browser still has to decode the audio and recognize speech.
The same-post check
On October 3, 2026, we used the public example post linked in the homepage input. We kept its post identifier unchanged and tested only the path spelling. These are results from the live XAPN service, not claims about every Instagram post.
| Input path | Live URL check | Live audio request |
|---|---|---|
/reel/ | valid_public_reel_url: true | HTTP 200; 317,657 bytes returned |
/reels/ | valid_public_reel_url: true | HTTP 200; 317,657 bytes returned |
The URL checks came from this site's public API guide endpoint, queried separately with each form. For the audio checks, we sent one request per form to the live /audio endpoint. The response sizes matched; we did not compare audio samples byte by byte. Separate direct requests to Instagram for both page URLs returned HTTP 200 at the time of the check, but a page response alone does not prove that a tool can fetch its audio.
Scope of evidence: neither of these two requests ran the browser speech model. We observed URL acceptance and audio retrieval, not transcript accuracy or a completed Done. state for both forms.
Which link should you paste?
Copy the link Instagram gives you and leave its path alone. This tool accepts either form, so manually switching /reel/ to /reels/ is not a required preparation step. Use the complete public HTTPS URL, including the post identifier. The URL check verifies its shape; it does not establish that the post is public, still available, or has spoken audio. A separate share-link check covers one Reel URL with a query suffix and a completed browser transcription.
If the link passes but no words appear
- Read the tool's status. A stop at audio fetching is different from a stop at decoding or model loading.
- Check that the Reel is publicly reachable without relying on your Instagram login.
- If the run reaches
Done.but shows no detected speech, listen for spoken words. Music and on-screen text are not speech input.
See the tested failure-stage guide for the exact distinction between these stages. Changing the URL path cannot fix a private post, a restricted post, or a browser recognition problem.
Frequently asked questions
Does /reels/ always redirect to /reel/? We did not establish a universal redirect rule. Our direct page requests received HTTP 200 for both forms; the transcript test did not depend on a redirect.
Will either form work for a private Reel? No link spelling bypasses access restrictions. This test used one public example only.
Is this a test of all Instagram video URLs? No. We tested these two Reel path forms for the same post, not Stories, profiles, or every video-post path.
Both accepted path shapes still represent one Reel at a time. The Instagram to text page accepts that single public Reel URL and returns plain text. Check the path before assuming recognition caused the failure.
