Instagram Transcript
An Instagram transcript is the written version of what is said in an Instagram video. This page explains how to get one, and how the tool here differs from the Instagram transcript generators that ask you to sign up, cap your video length, or make you download the video first.
Get an Instagram transcript →What an Instagram transcript is
Instagram does not publish a text version of what is said in a video. The audio is there, and auto-generated captions appear on some posts, but there is no transcript you can copy, search, or quote. An Instagram transcript is that missing text: a plain written record of the spoken words, produced by running the video's audio through speech recognition.
People want one for a handful of reasons — to quote a Reel accurately instead of paraphrasing it, to reuse the words as a caption or a blog post, to translate them, to search them later, or simply to read a video instead of watching it.
How to get an Instagram transcript here
- Copy the link to a public Instagram video. In the app, open the post and use the share menu to copy its link. On the web, copy the address from the browser bar. The link should look like
instagram.com/reel/…orinstagram.com/reels/…. - Paste it into the tool on the home page and select Get transcript.
- Read, copy, or download the text. When the status reads Done, use Copy or Download .txt. The result is one block of plain text with no markup.
Single-link input versus batch input
A single-link tool has one URL field and returns one transcript before you enter another link. That is the input shape on XAPN: paste one public Reel URL, finish and save its text, then replace the URL for the next Reel.
A batch tool accepts a list, spreadsheet, channel, account, or queue of URLs and keeps each result separate. Pasting several links into this page does not create a batch, and an Instagram profile URL is not shorthand for all of its Reels. If your job starts with multiple links and needs matched filenames or rows, use a true batch workflow.
To convert one link now, use the main Instagram to text page.
How this differs from most Instagram transcript tools
The tool on this site is deliberately narrow. That narrowness is the point — it is what removes the friction you usually hit on other Instagram transcript generators.
| What you normally hit | What happens here |
|---|---|
| A length cap that silently trims your video | No fixed length cap. The whole audio is fetched and transcribed. Longer videos simply take longer. |
| A sign-up wall before the first result | No account. No email, no password, no credit card, nothing to verify. |
| A daily quota, or credits that run out | No quota. Nothing counts your usage, and there is nothing to buy. |
| “Download the video first, then upload it” | No upload. Paste the link. The audio is retrieved for that one request only. |
| Your audio handed to a third-party transcription API | Recognition runs on your device. The audio is not sent to a transcription provider. |

What this tool cannot do
These are real limits, not fine print. If any of them is a blocker for you, this is the wrong tool and you should use something else.
- English only. The speech model is the English build of Whisper tiny. Other languages come back inaccurate rather than merely unpolished.
- No timestamps and no speaker labels. You get one continuous block of text. There is no “who said what, at 0:42”.
- Not as accurate as a paid service. A small on-device model is fast and free; it is not the best available. Names, brand terms, jargon, and strong accents are where it slips.
- No batch processing. One video per request. There is no queue, no account, and no bulk endpoint.
- No stored history. Nothing is saved between visits. If you want the text, copy it or download it before you close the page.
- Private, deleted, followers-only, or region-restricted videos cannot be retrieved, and neither can a video with no speech at all.
Instagram transcript FAQ
What is an Instagram transcript?
The written text of what is spoken in an Instagram video, produced by speech recognition. It is not the same as the caption the creator wrote, and it is not the same as on-screen text or stickers — it is what was actually said out loud.
How do I get a transcript from an Instagram video?
Copy the link to a public Instagram post, paste it into the tool, and select Get transcript. The audio is retrieved, recognised in your browser, and returned as text you can copy or download.
Do I have to download the video first?
No. That is the most common complaint about other tools, and this one is built to avoid it. You paste the link; you never handle the video file.
Is there a limit on how long the video can be?
There is no fixed cap. The whole audio is fetched and transcribed, so a long video produces a long transcript. Be aware that the longer the audio, the longer the in-browser recognition takes — a multi-minute video is noticeably slower than a 30-second one.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no account system at all — no sign-up, no login, no email required. Nothing on the site asks who you are.
Can I get a transcript for a private Instagram account?
No. The tool only retrieves videos that are publicly reachable. A private, followers-only, or deleted post cannot be fetched. Your own Instagram login is never used and cannot help here.
Does it work for Instagram Stories, IGTV, or regular video posts?
The audio endpoint accepts public instagram.com/reel/… and /reels/… links. Other Instagram URL shapes are rejected up front rather than failing silently, so you will see a message telling you to paste a public Reel link.
How accurate is the transcript?
Good enough to read, quote loosely, and reuse as a draft — not good enough to publish without reading it. Clear speech in a quiet recording works best. Always read the result before you rely on it, especially for names, numbers, and brand terms.
Is it free?
Yes, and there is no paid tier to be upsold into. The recognition happens on your own device with a free model, which is why nothing has to be charged for.
