Can a Cached Reel Transcript Model Work Offline?
No: caching the browser's speech model does not let this link-based tool transcribe a new Instagram Reel while the site or network is unavailable. Every new link still needs the site's audio request to return the Reel sound before the model can recognize words. Save a completed TXT file if you need the result later.
What we checked on the live site
On October 17, 2026 (Los Angeles time), we retrieved the public homepage and read the code it actually serves. Selecting Get transcript begins with a POST /audio request containing the entered Reel URL. Only after a successful response does the browser decode the returned audio, initialize or reuse Xenova/whisper-tiny.en, and put recognized words in the result area. The site's homepage, privacy page, and sitemap returned HTTP 200 during this check.
We then checked the site's audio route. It validates a public /reel/ or /reels/ link, retrieves a best-audio file for that request, returns the bytes to the browser, and removes the temporary request directory. The current path does not read a Reel from a visitor's local disk or from a browser-stored media archive. A cached recognition model therefore cannot supply missing audio when /audio is unreachable.
The browser code also imports its transcription library from a CDN and disables local model files served by this site. Cache behavior for those resources depends on the browser. We did not disconnect a browser, clear caches, or measure what its offline page might show. The narrower, verifiable finding is enough for a new Reel link: this implementation awaits a network audio response before it calls the model.
Finally, the current Download control creates a plain-text Blob from the visible result and saves instagram-reel-transcript.txt. That is the portable artifact. It is not the same thing as keeping the model cached, and it is not an audio or video backup.
Which part still needs the connection?
| Part | What the current workflow needs |
|---|---|
| Open the tool | The page and its browser library must load; browser cache behavior was not tested here. |
| Fetch a new Reel | A successful request to this site's /audio route, which in turn retrieves the public media. |
| Recognize speech | The audio samples and a usable model in the browser. Reusing a cached model does not skip the previous row. |
| Read a saved result | Open the TXT file you already downloaded; no new transcription is involved. |
Keep a result you may need again
- Wait for Done. and check that actual words, not an empty notice, appear in the result area.
- Review the wording against the original audio, especially names, numbers, and music-heavy phrases. An available model does not guarantee accurate speech recognition.
- Select Download .txt, then open the new file and compare it with the visible text. The download check explains why confirming the file matters.
- Keep the file in your own notes or backup workflow. If the site later fails or a Reel becomes inaccessible, the already-saved text remains available to you, though it cannot regenerate missing audio.
This is an implementation check, not a measured outage, uptime claim, or test of any other service. It also does not mean the transcript is uploaded to XAPN: the current recognition and TXT creation happen in the browser; the Reel URL is sent to the site to obtain audio. See the privacy policy for data-handling details.
